Picture of a child whose life is being transformed by faith in
God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The world is a crazy place, and it is potentially a very dark
and dangerous place for any child. Granted, many children
never see the evil and deadly side of the world while growing
up. Thank God for that. And thank godly parents or
other adults who work hard to protect the young from the evil
that is never very far away.
God is with everyone who trusts in Him, and He acts powerfully
in the lives committed to His care. While we as adults
have a responsibility to pray for our little ones, we also need
to make sure they also know how to pray. Spiritual life
with God for a child is not a complicated matter. We do
not need to make them memorize long, structured prayers.
We simply need to assure them that God will hear them when they
pray, and to make it very clear to them that He truly loves them
and is near to them every day, in all their circumstances.
Adults are sometimes shocked to learn that their children have a
much better sense of God's power, Presence and kindness
than we do, even if they have never been taught much about Him.
Their hearts are not hardened by years of daily struggles in
this world. Their faith is fresh and open, boundless
compared to the faith of most adults. It usually takes
even very sincere Christian adults years of walking with Christ
to get close to the simple "child-like" faith that most children
automatically have.
Let us help our children to anchor their faith in what God
Himself has said. While they are young, let's help them
learn about the importance of Jesus Christ, not only as a Savior
of sinners, but as out one and only Shepherd, our Teacher, our
guide in all of life. Children who learn early to trust
the Scriptures and to follow Jesus Christ will be better
prepared to face the realities of adolescent and adult life when
the time comes.
