Picture of a man and a woman singing Christian praises and
playing musical instruments.
It is good to praise God with music and song. Christians
do not all use music in the exact same ways. Some allow no
musical instruments to be used in buildings set apart for
worship and preaching. Some make use of just about every
kind of instrument known, and others only use a few instruments
that are considered more traditional for Christian music and
worship. Some sing mostly hymns while others sing very few
hymns, preferring contemporary spiritual songs and music styles.
I prefer more traditional Christian music and lots of hymns, but
I thank God for the many "new songs" being born in the hearts of
believers every day.
It is good to sing from the heart to God, to allow our spirits
to mingle with God's own Holy Spirit, as it were, in worship.
Truly the Lord does inhabit the praises of His people, and music
is a natural expression of praise. The psalmist David, and
others in Scripture praised God in song when they experienced
great victories, and even when they were earnestly hoping for a
victory. We benefit when we do the same.
All praise belongs to God, and He should be praised no matter
how we fare in life. But I believe He gives us the
privilege of singing and praising Him in worship for our own
good. Honest praise helps to purify the soul, rids the
mind of shadows and doubts and refreshes our human spirits.
It readies us for the battles we will face, for the conflicts of
everyday life and for the hard work of learning, growing and
following the Lord.
Someday, all who love the Lord will gather before Him in another
place and time that is far removed from this earthly life.
There, in that bright place, we will sing as never before and
praise God for everything, literally everything, that He brought
about in this world. We will thank Him for every tear we
shed, and praise Him for every hard battle, won or lost, that we
endured. We will especially praise and thank God for the
Lord Jesus who gives us life — and the ultimate victory. I
do not think we will be finished with that joyful expression of
praise for many centuries of earth time as we know it now.
I think the celebration will just go on and on and on.
Hallelujah!
