God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
How can we lead our children in faith?
We can best teach the children around us about faith in God by
living out that faith each day. I won't pretend that life
is always easy. Christians face great difficulties in life
just as other people do. We are still human, after all.
This means we face hunger and cold and illness and dangers and
even death itself. In fact, we may actually experience
more trouble, at times, because of our faith.
Don't forget the story of Job. Satan was permitted to
attach Job on every level. In fact, the Lord seemed almost
to invite the enemy to focus on Job. And Job is not the
only servant of God to ever have bad times. Any
human being who walks this earth will suffer difficulties.
David wrote: "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the
LORD delivereth him out of them all. (Psalm 34:19)"
Afflictions are hard times, painful times, bitter circumstances.
We are all familiar with them. The important part of
David's statement is that the Lord delivers His servants from
all the afflictions that come our way.
Just as Job's bitter difficulties came to an end, and his life
was turned from sorrow into blessing, so our darkest days will
also reach an end. No matter how the storm may rage, or
how great the threat of danger, in the end we will find God's
joy and peace. There is always an end to the things of
this world, but to the life that is given by God there is no
ending.
Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. As we
live each day by that reality, and allow our children to see our
own faith at work, so we will pass on to them a confidence in
God and a hope that will sustain them in their own times of
difficulty. The very best lessons of life are those we
learn by observation and shared experiences.
Jesus allowed His early disciples to walk with Him, in good
times and bad. They beheld His life and prayer and
confidence. They also witnessed His struggle in the Garden
and His suffering on the cross. They watched Him die.
And they were all witnesses to His resurrection and ascension
into heaven. They knew He was the real thing, God's true
Son and Messiah. The children you teach can learn good
things from what you say, and they will learn even more as they
see how you face the challenges of life each day.
