Good moms and dads are real super heroes. The pressures of
life can distress young parents to such an extent that they
little or no joy in life. Financial difficulties and
fears, medical problems and and all the other expenses involved
in raising a family, not to mention the pressure to perform at
work — all of these and more add to the challenges of life for
young moms and dads.
It can be especially difficult for young mothers to know how
best to deal with all the stress and all the tasks that need to
be completed each day. Whether she works outside the home
or devotes her day entirely to the raising of children and other
household work, she has more than enough to keep her busy
physically and mentally. And then, if she knows the Lord,
there may also be the added responsibilities of church or youth
work.

All the work God gives us is good. No matter how
challenging it may be or how scary, it is all good. But we
can lose sight of the goodness when all we see is the mountain
before us, waiting to be moved. That's why we need to
begin the day with prayer.
Real and meaningful prayer goes beyond the mere repetition of a
memorized prayer. As wonderful as it can be to read the
prayers of others (we can learn a lot about meaningful prayer in
this way) it is better still to begin each day by pouring out
the cares and concerns of our own heart.
Thanking God for all the blessings we enjoy is the very best way
to begin any prayer. Stop and think of just how much you
have. Many people around the world are without any kind of
house or home at all. Many have no food, no way to get
medical help, no friendly church to attend, no Bible to read or
believe. Too many must watch their own children suffer and
die from illnesses, starvation, or wounds inflicted by war.
We have much to thank God for. We must not take the good
things we enjoy for granted.
It is also good to express our deepest concerns to the Lord.
Paying the bills may not sound a like a major concern, but it
often is for many young families in America, in good times or
bad. Having reliable transportation is also important.
Having peace with neighbors, coworkers, and family members is
also a big problem at times, and certainly worthy of God's help.
Don't hesitate to pray for the things, however big or small,
that trouble you the most. Sometimes we may have trouble
just having the clothes to dress properly for our work or other
activities. God cares and he will help, so bring all your
cares to Him.
Prayer is not just about finding a way to express negative or
worrisome emotions. God really hears us when we ask Him
for help, and He really works in human lives to make things
happen in response to our heart's cry. Jesus tells us to
"Have faith in God" when we pray, and to believe that
He will do
for us what we are unable to do for ourselves. Sometimes
we just need a better idea, a fresh point of view.
Sometimes we need a real miracle. God will supply whatever
we need.
When we pray, it is good to thank God for what we already have.
It is good to pour out our concerns and worries to the Lord.
And it is also good to listen to whatever God's Spirit may have to say to
us. Prayer is not just a one-way communication. It
is a good time to hear from God while we are still and quiet.
Having your Bible handy and reading a few verses or a set
passage of Scripture is the best way, I think, to hear from God
during our prayer time. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to
your own life the things written down many generations ago.
The God of Abraham, King David, Paul the apostle and the Lord
Jesus is working in our lives today. What He said to
others, so long ago, will often prove helpful to us as well.
Busy moms will find supernatural help to guide and strengthen
them during the day when they begin the day with prayer.
Starting out with prayer is the best way to begin your walk with
Jesus Christ every day. Don't try to face alone all the
challenges a day will bring. Commit your day and your ways
to the Lord, and He will work things out.
