Picture of a Christian church
building in a setting of green hills, fronted by colorful
flowers, and visited by snowy white doves. The image
speaks symbolically, with realistic elements, of the peace we
share in Christ, the power of God in the creation of the world,
and the Presence of God among His people, represented by the
three white doves.
Christians enjoy many things as a
result of their faith in Jesus Christ and their obedience to the
gospel message. Above all, we enjoy the promise of eternal
life with God. God loves all people, not just Christian
believers. His desire, plainly and repeatedly stated in
the Scriptures, is for all people to be saved. God has not
made reservations in hell for anyone. But only those who
embrace Jesus Christ by faith have the promise of eternal life
with God in light and glory.
Eternity in heavenly glory is not
all we have, as believers, to hope for. We also have the
blessings we receive from the church itself, the body of
Christian believers who meet with us for worship, fellowship and
prayer. The local church is for many Christians a kind of
family. The Bible itself makes it clear that all believers
are children of God, and therefore brothers and sisters in
Christ.
No family on earth is perfect.
Not even God's family. But the sharing of Christian faith
and the encouragement we receive from each other as we journey
together on God's path in this world more than makes up for any
imperfections we may observe in other believers. In a
family, we all grow together. In the church we also grow
up in Christ and we share the experience of God's own Presence
among us as we practice His kindness toward others and receive
from them the same kindness. God's power enables us to not
only believe in Christ but also to follow Him in daily living.
