necessary elements for spiritual health.
Daily spiritual health is important
in any Christians life. We cannot live as though we do not
know God and then expect to remain strong and wise, spiritually.
The part of our lives that we feed is the part that will grow
stronger until it dominates our daily walk.
Faith in Jesus is the very first
step we must take, if we wish to be spiritually alive.
There is no life or walk with God without a heart and mind open
to the Lord Jesus Christ. But we cannot stop with a
one-time faith and confession of Jesus that is years old.
We must continue to follow Him and to partake of His Word,
yielding to His teachings daily, or we will shrivel up,
spiritually, and die on the vine. This is His own teaching
in John 15.
Confession of sin is a must if we
ever hope to advance beyond the earliest stages of infancy as a
new creation. To deny sin is natural for anyone. It
is also the path of death and self-imposed darkness that leads
to an empty, fruitless life as a child of God. Embracing
truth means admitting the truth about ourselves. This is
just as important as confessing the truth about God and His Son,
the Lord Jesus Christ. Until we know our own selves
(examining our lives in the perfect light of God's Word with the
help of His Holy Spirit), we cannot be much help in the kingdom.
Repentance is not a one-time act.
We do not surrender to Jesus just once, and then we are done.
Repentance is a daily act, as we continually die to our own
ideas, wishes and desires and turn to follow Jesus Christ.
Our natural concerns are the same as those of any other human
being. It takes Christ in us to turn us back to God when
our minds begin to stray back into faithless, godless thinking
and acting. We can easily become filled with ourselves
each day instead of filled with God's Spirit. To serve God
means obeying His call to go the right way, turning to Him
instead of heading down the old familiar paths.
Faithful daily walk. Once we have
given our hearts, minds and lives to Jesus, the challenges
begin. Whatever God says will always be challenged by the
world and by the devil's hordes of spiritual combatants.
To remain faithful, when everything seems to point us in a
different direction is the daily challenge that never leaves or
fades away, so long as we walk this earth. When we first
believe, everything seems to become so clear, and then the
doubts start working their way back into our minds, our hearts,
our very flesh and blood. But with Christ as our Shepherd
and Lord, we will be able to see and know God's will.
Equally important, we will be able to do the things that please
God.
