Picture of a puppy reminding us that
real love is always faithful.
I guess that of we are not careful,
we can become so smart that we become blind to the obvious.
When we look at the "big picture" for example, we may begin to
see the planet and all the living creatures through the eyes of
science. When we think of the part that each creature
plays in the overall scheme of things, we might see dogs as mere
predators, scavengers, designed by God to help keep the earth
clean, or whatever.
That's how a biologist may see them.
Unless he has a dog at home. Dogs have been lots of things
to human beings, down through the centuries. They
represent both good and evil aspects of human life. A dog
may seem threatening, for example, since many are used to guard
property or to sniff out drugs and other dangerous substances.
But I believe one of the things God had in mind when He gave us
dogs, was love and faithfulness.
God uses the creatures around us to
instruct us in countless ways. Even highly trained
scientists makes serious studies of animals and insects, birds
and fish — in order to discover better ways of doing things as
humans. Termites are studied for the incredibly efficient
air flow and cooling system they use in African mounds.
Birds have long been studied for ages as men have tried to
understand flight. And the social order of bees and other
hive insects have fascinated researchers for a long time.
Dogs are known to make good pets.
They demonstrate loving devotion, faithfulness and enduring
friendship. In fact, it has often been said that a dog is
man's best friend. When a dog loves a person, that love is
not conditional. The dog remains faithful to the very end.
The dog gives a good example of how
people should behave toward each other. We should be more
faithful in our love for others. God teaches us by His own
example of faithfulness in love and He also gives us the lowly
dog as yet another daily reminder. The dog often often
shares our home, so we can observe his genuine loyalty day by
day.
What about you? If your love
was to be observed in detail every day, how would it measure up?
Do you love God, your spouse, your family, your friends with the
uncomplicated devotion that even a dog can muster? God
teaches us through the things around us. May we all learn
to have open eyes, open minds and ready hearts.
