Simple picture of a house. I
am reminded by this picture that, if God is with me, then I can
be "at home" no matter where I am, or what circumstances are
unfolding.
God gives His own Presence, His comfort and
acceptance to His children, making us welcome when we know and love Him and His
Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, the Holy Spirit is
within every born-again believer, so that we are never separated
from God's Presence. He is with us to hear us, to guide
us, to keep us in all circumstances.
David talks about this in some of
his psalms, referring both to the valley of the shadow of death
and to hell itself as places where the Lord is always present.
We may argue some of these points theologically, but the fact
remains that where any child of God is found, the Lord will be
right there with him or her to make His Presence and power
known.
The story of the three young Hebrews
in the book of Daniel is a wonderful example of this.
Because of their refusal to worship false gods or bow to dumb
idols, they were thrown into a blazing furnace to be burned
alive. But when the king looked into the flames... well,
the Bible says it best:
"Then King Nebuchadnezzar was
astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his
counselors, 'Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of
the fire?' They answered and said to the king, 'True, O
king.'
"'Look!' he answered, 'I see four
men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not
hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.'"
(Daniel 3:24,25 NKJV)
When we pass through dark waters or
walk through the fire, when we wander in a dry and empty desert
or fall into the raging sea, God is there with us, to save us,
comfort us, keep us. Jesus Christ promised His followers
that He will be with us all the way through this world.
Regardless of our circumstances, our
lot in life, our location on the earth, Jesus makes us a home.
By His Spirit He will be with us no matter where we may be,
until we make it all the way to His city and His house, where we
will remain with Him and the Father, forever.
