When and where will I ever be "at home" in this universe?
Whoever walks with God is never
alone. Not in this world, and not in any future age —
ever. The Lord is at home with those who love Him.
The Lord Jesus says something
extraordinary in John's Gospel. Scripture says, "Jesus
answered and said to him, 'If anyone loves Me, he will keep My
word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and
make Our home with him.'" (John 14:23, NKJV)
Now, there is a sense in which God
is always with everyone and everything in this universe.
God is always present in all places. If you or I were to
travel to the moon, God would still be there. If we went
to another planet, say Jupiter, we would discover that God is
right there. If we made our way to another star, God would
still be right there. Even if we traveled all the way to
another galaxy, the same God would be right there. And
even if it were possible for us to leave the universe and go to
some other place, we would always be with God, in the sense that
God is everywhere, all the time.
But the closeness of God to His
people is much more than the mere overlapping of our own finite
existence and presence with the omnipresence of God. God is truly "with" us when we
walk with Jesus. And wherever God is, we can also be right at
home.
