Image of a local church building, set in rural setting with blue
as the dominant color. Image serves as a graphic symbol,
representing the local community of Christian believers.
There are liberal churches,
conservative churches, churches steeped in tradition, mega
churches and tiny churches. There are rich churches, poor
churches, spiritual churches, dogmatic churches and just about
every other kind of church one might imagine.
People who are not going to church
may be drawn to a local church for any number of reasons.
Mom and dad, for example, may want to develop a circle of
Christian friends for the sake of the children and the health of
the family. They may not (at least not in the beginning)
expect anything truly spiritual to take place in anyone's lives.
They may simply be trying to improve their lives in very
practical ways.
In another family, dad may be
looking for a good community of business prospects, or mom may
be looking for a youth group that will influence the children in
the family for good. In other homes, it is the son or
daughter who discovers something wonderful in the local church.
Maybe they find Christ at a retreat or other special event, and
they simply want to be a part of something far greater the
crowds of this world.
People begin attending church for
all kinds of reasons, and many times those reasons are positive
in nature, even if they are not yet fully understood. The
fact is, God Himself is the power of any group of genuine
Christians. Jesus Christ binds all true believers
together, making us one, even though our social backgrounds,
languages and previous philosophies may be very, very different.
