We all need a helping hand as we
make our way through this life. We need a steady hand, a
guide, a strong support at times. And even in the best of
times, we need to have a Friend that is always there, to help us
stay on course.
Life is not always perfect on planet
earth. Every living thing on this planet must struggle at
times just to survive. Some one or some thing is always
out to get us, to take advantage. Fish eat other fish.
Spiders lay traps for flies and other insects. Parasites
look for ways to infest birds, rabbits, people, and even bees.
Traps are out there, set by car salesmen, politicians, realtors,
and who knows what else? Not everyone you meet is out to
get you, but some plainly are.
Worst of all, we have a spiritual
enemy. The forces of darkness that wage battles against
God and all that is good also strive to trip us up. While
we may not be the main target so much as collateral damage, the
threat is still very real, as Scripture often warns us: Beware.
1 Peter 5:8 says, "Be sober, be
vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walks about, seeking whom he may devour."
We need to be sure we are walking
with the Lord, and taking full advantage of all that he provides
for us, so that our daily journey in life will be safe as
possible. The apostle Paul wrote much about these things
in the New testament, and we would be wise to pay attention.
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in
the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole
armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of
the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the
whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil
day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins
girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the
gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the
wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication
for all saints..." (Ephesians 6:10-18)
