The Fool and the Raven

"You don't understand," said the Fool to the Raven, "I think the Bible is a wonderful book but I simply have no time to read it."  At this the Raven cackled or coughed (the sound wasn't clearly one sound or the other in the ears of the Fool).  "Oh," said the Raven, "I understand fools better than you think.  My brain is very small, but it works just fine.  You claim to believe this and to believe that, but words mean very little in the grand scheme of things.  A single act is always more telling than all the words a fool may conjure.  Your religious praises of God and of the Bible mean very little when compared to your life.  How you spend the day says it all."  And then the Raven clearly laughed very loudly as he flew away.                 — Jim Sutton                    Bible Pictures
